My favorite campground in the Smokys, Elkmont, offers everything you need to kick-back, relax and get back to nature. The park has the river along some sites, mountains behind others, trails, excellent amenities and visitors can see some of the history of the Smokys.
The trick to keeping the Smokys pure is to not let them know you've been there. I'm an admirer and lover of the Smokys, with a great passion for them. I just ask that when you visit, you have the respect for the grace and solitude that is 'The Great Smoky Mountains'. *
History of the 'Old Homes' in Elkmont
There's a big controversy over the 'Homes' not really belonging to the 'mountain folk', they belonged to the area's most elite.
Dangers of Tubing !!
Even though people do go tubing on the rivers, its not advised, actually its very dangerous, because of hidden rocks. Your foot could get stuck and the river current could hold you under. Click here to learn more.
* Remember Elkmont is a nature preserve and not a theme park... We should adjust to the surroundings and NOT make them adjust to us.
Enjoy and BORROW this area, but its not ours to take.
